Dear LJ:
I was quite appalled to hear about your mass-deletion of communities and journals with what you deemed as 'triggering' interests. Some of us have survived Rape. Some of us have survived abuse. And some of us wish to speak up and help others. How can we do that if you're taking away what we use to help those in need?
Have you even researched this "Warriors For Innocence"? Now what about the countless others who will not benefit from this deletion? What about the countless molesters who will now be driven further underground?
What about the countless members who have survived abuse, who have survived rape, and are now, finally, proud to stand up and say that they have... only for LJ to tell them that they can't?
Now what will we do? Now what source will we have to share our stories and our knowledge with others, now that your once-valuable source has been so ruthlessly and thoughtlessly taken away?
You were once one of the voices that helped make us strong as a united front.
And now your silence in the fight deafens me. Your silence speaks volumes, as much now as it will ever speak. Your silence is like a slap in the face to those of us who have survived the rape, survived the abuse, and are now, or will soon, learn to stand again, learn to live again, learn to function again.
As the friend of several people who have survived abuse and rape, I, personally, hope that you never experience it. And if that does happen, I hope that this very same silence never crosses your path.
Respectfully,
ladybrighid3333

Comment(optional): I'm a Vagina Warrior. And as such, I believe that what the hell is wrong with sexual freedom? What the hell is wrong with being a SURVIVOR? You aren't saving anyone. You aren't fighting for anyone. So why the persecution?

Comment(optional): I am absolutely appalled that LJ Abuse would employ such a kneejerk reaction to deal with what is obviously a vigilante group. Does it not say in the LJ Terms of Service that LiveJournal is NOT responsible for the content posted on its site? If so, then why is LiveJournal contravening ITS OWN terms of service? If any one of us LiveJournal users contravened the Terms of Service, we would be punished and understandably so. But apparently, no such punishment exists for those who run LiveJournal itself.
Please do not take this to mean that I condone rape and incest. I CERTAINLY do not. But neither do I condone the blatant restrictions upon our freedom of speech that these suspensions represent. Some of the communities suspended are those meant to HELP survivors of rape and incest. How is it, then, that they too are being slapped with suspensions after having been reported to LJ Abuse? How are they even abusing LJ? LJ Abuse exists to prevent users from feeling legitimately threatened on LiveJournal. It does not exist to feed the agenda of vigilantes who are simply Googling the terms "rape" "incest" "pedophilia" and "LiveJournal" and then reporting to LJ Abuse whatever they find. Why are those at LJ Abuse not recognizing that these communities are legitimate and need to exist? Why does LJ Abuse not understand that these supposed "complaints" are not even coming from LiveJournal users themselves? Why are they hiding their heads in the sand, refusing to acknowledge the concerns of LJ users? Why are they partaking in such censorship?
I await eagerly the answers to these questions. In the meantime, I will not be paying $150 to LiveJournal for a Permanent Account. A site that treats its users with such callous disrespect does not deserve my hard-earned money.

Comment(optional): This is absolutely ridiculous. By attacking innocent writers and, worse yet, victims of the very acts you claim to be trying to prevent, the most you can hope to do is lull the community into a false sense of security. Is that really what you want? By destroying our freedom of speech (and you are based in America - shouldn't that matter to you?) you are helping noöne but the perpetrators of these crimes. Listing something in your interest list does not mean you're positively interested in it. Oftentimes it simply means that you are interested in talking with others about it. Victims of rape and abuse do not deserve to be silenced. Fiction writers do not deserve to be punished for what they write. Think about what you're doing and what you're saying. Make the right choices. Be prepared for the consequences - you will certainly lose many more paying customers than you are suspending.

We've supposedly left condemnation without trial back in the dark ages, I'd like to think.

Comment(optional): These actions are destroying what this site and being American is about. The right to free speech and free expression most definitely covers the "questionable" content that LiveJournal has deleted over the last 24 (48?) hours. Just because some narrow minded polarized group says it's immoral and shouldn't be allowed doesn't mean rights should be revoked.

Comment(optional): Seriously, guys... find something better to do with your time than infecting people with SpyWare and deleting their art. You're not helping anyone, just causing mass amounts of nonsense. You're not fighting for innocence- everyone's corrupt already, just deal with it. Pissing people off will not change that.

Comment(optional): I am vehemently in protest against pedophilia, but I am equally in protest against the suspension of the right to freedom of speech. I'm not so ignorant and arrogant to think that the American way is the only way, and I know the internet is certainly global and does not belong to this country alone, but the Founders definitely got it right when they listed "freedom of speech" as one of the unalienable human rights. But here you are, LJ, stripping us of our rights of expression. It is, above all else, the responsibility of the parents to protect their children and teach them the difference between reality and fiction. And it is your responsibility to thoroughly investigate all accusations before taking action. Who are you? McCarthy? I'd thought the civilized countries of the world had moved beyond such stupidity. Clearly, I made an ass out of you and me by assuming things.

Comment(optional): Is there a way to fail harder than this? If you really wanted to go after pedophiles, you could at least do it in a better way that is, hell, I don't know, productively instead of creating the fiasco you have here. Certainly this is proof that you, LJ, don't have a backbone at this point and that is disappointing. Sure, you are getting some of the communities that are bad and I suppose some thanks is needed for that but the fact that you have deleted more innocent journals than not should say something to you.
It is a sad, sad day when one has trouble differentiating between fiction and reality. I don't know about you but there is a line between fantasy and reality. Fine as it may be, it is still there. The fact that you are banning people for artistic expression is absolutely retarded. Sure, I can see if they actually committed sexual acts against children or against certain other people but you don't exactly have any proof of that for most of these. Just because they write things doesn't always mean the behavior translates to other things, contrary to certain beliefs.
For the love of fandom, at the very least do your research. If not stop this whole stupid fiasco completely.

Comment: You realize that all you've done is helped those who are a real threat to scrap any "questionable" interests and nothing more? I get that lj abuse is probably busy but honestly don't you think it would have been better to check the site before deleting it? It would have not only helped Livejournal and SixApart appear competent as a whole but kept communities that HELP and SUPPORT survivors of abuse to remain and be accessible to those looking for said help and support. Seriously big screw up by you guys...BIG.

Comment(optional): It's sad when a community such as Livejournal can take such a turn that it's members feel the need to delete their interests, profiles, and make entries friends only so that they can keep their status. Innocent communities filled with years of orginial work are being deleted, and for what? To make a few people feel more comfortable? Livejournal used to be great because (with very few exceptions) you could be creative and post anything on your journal. Look what this has turned into.

Comment(optional): I think that this situation could have been handled much better than it was. Because of the tactless manner in which you chose to conduct your "purge" of 'indecent' materials, many predators who were using Livejournal were alerted to it almost instantly and as such they were forewarned before the problem could ever be throroughly dealt with.
Furthermore, I think that the way you so easily [seem to have] swayed to the radical and [apparently] amateur Warriors for Innocence without doing a thorough background check into their dealings was highly irresponsible. You've caused a lot of unecessary grief and trouble for your devotyed patrons of livejournal.
I have no doubt that this folly needs to be corrected, else it remain a permanent black stain on your company's reputation.

Comment(optional):LiveJournal I can almost understand why you kow-towed to a group of crazed vigilantes, why you deleted innocent journals and communities in a mass culling, why you drove actual paedophiles further underground possibly ruining legitimate criminal investigations, and why you set a precedent of censorship which may end very badly... oh wait, no I can’t.
And is it really so hard to make a statement? Just telling us you were aware of our concerns and would put up a full statement later would have been better than nothing.
